Legal & data
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Ixmavelle Digital ("we," "us") handles personal information when you visit ixmavelle.digital, submit a contact form, or subscribe to updates. It describes what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you.
It applies to readers of our political coverage, to anyone who sends a news tip, and to anyone who writes to our desk. If a question about your data is not answered here, we will answer it directly: contact us about your data through the contact page.
Effective date
October 12, 2026
This page covers the newsroom site, the contact form, news tips, and the update emails you ask for. It does not cover third-party sites we link to from a story.
Written for readers of our elections, policy, and courts coverage. Plain language, no legal shorthand where a plain sentence works.
What this policy covers
Eleven short sections, each answering one question a reader or tipster usually asks. Jump to the one you need.
Information we collect
Two kinds of information reach us: what you type into a form, and what your browser reports while you read.
We collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, and message content when you use a contact form, submit a news tip, or sign up for updates. If you send a tip, the details you choose to share are yours to control — we ask only for what is needed to follow up, and we do not require you to identify yourself.
We also collect limited technical data automatically, including browser type, device type, and pages viewed. This technical data is used in aggregate to understand site performance — which stories load slowly on a phone, which sections readers return to. It is not used to build a profile of you as an individual.
We do not ask for payment details, government identification numbers, or any special category of information. Please do not send those in a form or a tip.
How we use your information
Replying to you
We use contact details to respond to your message, evaluate a news tip, or send updates you requested. Nothing about that reply is shared outside the desk that handles it.
Running the site
Technical data helps us keep the site working and identify which articles readers find useful — which of our elections and policy pieces get finished, and which get abandoned halfway.
What we never do
We do not sell personal information to third parties. We do not use submitted tip content for advertising, and we do not pitch products to you because you wrote to us.
Legal basis and consent
Where a law asks us to name a reason for holding your information, this is what we rely on.
Where required by applicable law, we process personal information based on your consent, which you give when you submit a form. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us; a withdrawal stops future processing but does not undo a reply already sent.
Some processing is necessary to respond to your request or to operate the site securely. Keeping the site online, blocking abuse, and delivering the page you asked for fall into that group, and they do not depend on consent.
If you are unsure which basis applies to your situation, write to us and we will explain it in plain terms.
Cookies and similar technologies
Read our Cookie PolicyWe use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site functioning and to measure aggregate traffic. A separate Cookie Policy describes the categories we use and how to manage them, including how to change your choice after you have made one.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect site features — for example, a preference you set may not be remembered on your next visit.
Measurement happens in aggregate. We look at how many readers opened a story and how far they scrolled, not at which named person read which article.
Data retention
How long something stays on our systems depends on why it was sent.
Contact messages
Kept only as long as needed for the purpose they were submitted — usually until the question is answered and the thread has gone quiet.
News tips
Held while a story is being reported or checked, or as required for legal and editorial record-keeping. If a tip leads nowhere, it is removed.
Technical logs
Retained for a limited period and then deleted or aggregated. When information is no longer needed, we remove it.
Sharing and disclosure
The short version: your details are not merchandise.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate the site, subject to confidentiality obligations, or when required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights. Any such disclosure is limited to what is necessary.
A service provider might host the site, deliver an email you asked for, or help us block abusive traffic. Each of those providers works under a contract that limits what it can do with the information we hand over.
If we are ever legally compelled to hand over information, we look at the scope of the request first and disclose only what the request actually covers.
Your rights over your own information
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. The buttons and details below are the route to use; nothing else on the site is needed to start a request.
What happens after you write
We will verify your request before responding — usually by replying to the address the request came from, so that someone else cannot ask for your information on your behalf. If we cannot verify it, we will tell you why and what else would help.
Requests that arrive on a weekday during our working hours are handled in the order they come in. If a request is unusually broad, we may come back with a narrower question so we can answer the part that matters first.
Where to send a request
Use the contact page and tell us plainly what you would like us to do.
Contact us about your dataOffice hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM ET.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information submitted through the site. Access to form submissions is limited to the people who need it to answer you or report a story.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you believe your information has been compromised, contact us so we can investigate, and change any password you reused elsewhere.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided information through a form or a tip, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
Effective October 12, 2026
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
Continued use of the site after an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy. If a change would meaningfully widen what we collect, we will say so at the top of this page rather than bury it in a section.
