Tips, corrections, and questions all go to the same team, and we read them. If you have a document, a source, or a complaint about something we published, this is the place to send it. We aim to respond to substantive messages, though we can't reply to everything.

What to send, and where it lands

Every message below is read by the editorial team, not a sales inbox. Pick the route that matches what you have: a document worth checking, a factual error in a published story, or a question about how we cover U.S. elections, policy, and the courts. If you are unsure which one fits, use the form and describe it in your own words.

Tell us what you know and how you know it

The most useful tips come with something we can check: a document, a filing, a recording, or a named source willing to talk. Describe what you have in the message field, and mention if the material is sensitive so we can agree on how to handle it before you send anything further. If you need a reply by a certain date, say so.

We use your message to evaluate tips, corrections, and coverage requests. Contact details are not published and are not shared with third parties for marketing. The privacy policy explains the data side in full.

Send a news tip

Tell us what you know and how you know it. If you're sharing sensitive material, say so in your first message so we can discuss how to handle it. We protect sources who ask us to.

Report a correction

Point to the specific sentence and tell us what the correct information is. Corrections that change the meaning of a piece are published, and we note what was updated. Include a link to the article if you can.

Editorial feedback and questions

Ask about our coverage, our standards, or why we chose a particular story. We use reader questions to decide which explainers to write next. Feedback that's specific is easier to act on than a general complaint.

Partnerships and media inquiries

If you're a publication, researcher, or organization looking to work with us, describe what you have in mind and your timeline. We consider syndication, data collaboration, and interview requests case by case. Editorial independence is not negotiable in any partnership.

Timeline first

Prefer to write directly?

Send tips and correction requests to [email protected], or call the desk at +1 202-467-4083 during desk hours. If a tip is time-sensitive, put that in the first line.

Where we're based, and how far the beat reaches

Our editorial work is centered on Washington, D.C., which keeps us close to the institutions we cover. That said, we report on races and courts across the country, and we work with people in the states we follow. Being based in the capital is a starting point, not a limit on the beat. If a story is happening in your district, we want to hear about it.

Elections

Races, primaries, and the state-level contests we follow closest.

Policy and governance

What gets decided, who decides it, and what changes afterward.

Courts

Filings, rulings, and the accountability work that follows them.

How we handle your message

Messages sent through this page are read by the editorial team and used to evaluate tips, corrections, and coverage requests. We don't publish your contact details, and we don't share them with third parties for marketing. If you need a response by a certain date, say so in the message and we will tell you either way.

Confidentiality works best when it is agreed early. If you ask for it, we will talk through what it means for the story before anything is published, including how we would describe a source if the material becomes central to a piece.

Before you send

How do I know my tip reached the right person?

Messages sent through this page go to the editorial team, and you'll see a confirmation page after you submit. If your tip is time-sensitive, say so in the message. We follow up when a tip is something we can act on.

Will you keep my identity confidential?

If you ask for confidentiality, we'll discuss what that means before publishing anything. We don't publish source contact details. For sensitive material, tell us early so we can agree on a safe way to communicate.

Can I request a correction without an account?

Yes. Send the article link, the sentence in question, and the correct information. You don't need to register or log in. Corrections are reviewed by the editorial team.

Still deciding what to send?

Most people arrive here with one of three things: something they think we got wrong, something they know that we don't, or a question about how the coverage is put together. All three are worth sending, and none of them require an account. Read what we have already published first if it helps you be specific — specifics are what move a story forward.
